Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 October 2026
HuddleHoop helps people find and fill basketball games. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can get rid of it. It covers the HuddleHoop mobile app and the website at huddlehoop.com.
The short version. We collect the minimum needed to put you in a game: who you are, how good you are, and roughly where you want to play. We do not sell your data, we do not run ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. You can delete your account and your personal data from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
HuddleHoop ("HuddleHoop", "we", "us") is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at hello@huddlehoop.com.
2. What we collect
| Data | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Email address | To create your account, confirm it is really you, sign you in, and send you account and game messages. |
| Password | Stored only as a salted cryptographic hash by our authentication provider. Nobody at HuddleHoop can read it. |
| Display name and optional profile photo | So other players in a game know who is on the roster and can recognise you at the court. |
| Date of birth | To confirm you are 18 or older. HuddleHoop is an adults-only service for now. We store the date so we do not have to ask you again. |
| Home market and skill level | To show you games near you at a level that makes for a good run. |
| Precise location (optional) | Only if you grant permission, and only while the app is open, to sort games by distance from you. You can decline and pick your market from a list instead — nothing stops working. We do not store a history of your movements. |
| Game activity | Games you host or join, your spot on a roster or waitlist, attendance, and cancellations. This is how the product works, and it feeds the reliability signals other players see. |
| Technical and diagnostic data | Device type, app version, and error reports, used to keep the app working and to investigate abuse. |
What we do not collect
- We do not collect payment card details. HuddleHoop does not take payments yet.
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, calendar, microphone or camera roll.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We do not buy personal data about you from data brokers.
3. Legal bases for processing
Where UK or EU data protection law applies to you, we rely on these bases: performance of our contract with you (running your account and your games), our legitimate interests (keeping the service safe, preventing abuse, and improving reliability), your consent (precise location, which you can withdraw in your device settings at any time), and legal obligation (responding to lawful requests and keeping limited records).
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising. We do use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf under contract:
- Supabase — database, authentication and file storage. Your account and game data lives here.
- Cloudflare — hosting and delivery of the website and web app, plus protection against attacks.
- Expo (EAS) — building and updating the mobile app.
- Apple and Google — distribution of the mobile app, where you install it from their stores.
We also share the limited information other players need in order to play with you. If you join a game, the host and the other confirmed players can see your display name, profile photo, skill level and whether you showed up. They do not see your email address, date of birth or precise location.
We may disclose information if we are legally required to, or where we genuinely believe it is necessary to protect someone's safety or to investigate fraud or abuse.
5. Where your data is held
Our infrastructure is hosted in the United States. If you use HuddleHoop from outside the US, your information will be transferred there and handled under this policy.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account data — until you delete your account, plus a short window in backups.
- Game history — games you took part in remain on record so other attendees keep an accurate history of their own games, but once you delete your account those games are no longer linked to you by name.
- Diagnostic logs — kept briefly and then discarded.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, without emailing anyone: open the app, go to the Profile tab, scroll to Danger zone, and choose Delete account. Any upcoming game you were hosting is cancelled and the people who had signed up are told why.
Deletion removes your profile, your email address and your authentication record. It cannot be undone. If you would rather we did it for you, write to hello@huddlehoop.com from the address on your account.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, receive a portable copy, and withdraw consent. Most of this you can do yourself in the app. For anything else, email hello@huddlehoop.com and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
9. Children
HuddleHoop is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, tell us at hello@huddlehoop.com and we will remove it.
10. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed, never stored in readable form. Access to the database is restricted by row-level security rules so one player cannot read another player's private data. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects you we will tell you and the relevant regulator as required by law.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change meaningfully affects you, tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
12. Contact
Questions, requests or complaints: hello@huddlehoop.com.
